About the garden

Newkirk Community Garden was established in 2019 when a group of neighbors came together to prevent the closure of the community garden at 736 East 8th Street, Brooklyn, NY 11230. In CB14 where very little public green space exists, new and returning volunteers have revitalized and renovated a green community space started in 2010 as Compost for Brooklyn.

Today, we are building Newkirk Community Garden to be a gathering place for neighbors & friends to experience nature and grow in environmental stewardship. Already, this garden has become a focal point for collaboration among area schools and social organizations. With more volunteers, we look forward to expanding access to the garden as a space where diverse residents create deeper connections with each other and with the neighborhood.
